A Christmas Carol Auditions August 30 & Sept 1 & 2.

The Off Broad Street Players are hosting open auditions for their holiday production of "A Christmas Carol" at 7:30 p.m. on August 30 and September 1 at Trinity United Methodist Church on 14 Fayette St. in Bridgeton. Doors open at 7 p.m. Those auditioning should be prepared to do cold readings from the script and sing christmas songs.

Director Jim Cook Jr is looking for a cast of over 30 between the ages of 6 - 65. This theatrical version, as Dickens envisioned it to be, is very tradition to the original text of the book with many surprises. It has been adapted for the stage by Rowan graduate Jim Cook Jr of Woodstown with original and traditional music composed and arranged by Walter A. Webster of Bridgeton. The play follows the journey of a miserly Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge and his haunting by three spirits who show him the true meanings of Christmas, humanity, and redemption.

Ebenezer Scrooge – (40-65, male) miserly and angry at the world, he is taken on a journey guided by ghosts who force him to reflect on turning points in his life.

Bob Cratchit - (24-50, male) quiet, reserved, and loving towards his family and friends.

Fredrick Scrooge – (20-30, male) very happy person, but tries to make others happy and it’s getting difficult for him. Should be able to display a range of exuberant happiness to being deeply troubled.

Jacob Marley – (50-65. male) ghost of SCROOGE’s business partner, cold, stoic, loud, creepy.

Ghost of Christmas Past – (20-50, female) Reserved, beautiful, calm, and heavenly.

Ghost of Christmas Present – (18-35, female) Chipper and happy, sexy but not over the top. She is a flirt. She is a change from the original version.

Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come – (any, female) very tall, slender, face will be covered.

Tiny Tim - (8-12, male) – sickly, thin son of the CRATCHIT family.

Caroline & Husband – (18-35, male/female) young couple who are about to be thrown in debtor's prison

Mrs. Cratchit (24-50, female) strong woman who holds her family together while challenging BOB’s emotions.

Fezziwig – (40-65, male) jolly man who is YOUNG SCRG’s boss, throws big holiday parties.

Dick Wilkins – (15-21, male) YOUNG SCRG’s best friend.

Boy Scrooge – (8-12, male) Scrooge as a young boy, saddened that he is attending boarding school.

Young Scrooge – (18-30, male) must show a quick range from being happy and naïve to cold and cynical.

Fan – (12-17, female) young sister of BOY SCRG. She rescues him from the boarding school.

Belle – (18-25, female) must show a range of happy and naïve to realistic and strong. She ends her engagement with YOUNG SCRG.

Martha – (16-21, female) oldest CRATCHIT daughter, works in a factory.

Belinda – (10-15, female) young CRATCHIT daughter

Glinda - (9-15, female) young CRATCHIT daughter

Abigail Scrooge – (20-35, female) Wife of FRED. She is sarcastic and realistic but feels guilty that her and FRED have no children.

Molly – (13-18, female), young sister of FRED. She is quiet and a little slow. She falls victim to a bad scene. She is not a woman yet, still a girl.

Topper – (20-30, male), unkept harsh man who is attracted to the young MOLLY.

Three Gentlemen – (25+ male) Two of them endevor to raised a fund to help those in need.

Old Joe - (30+, male) swindiling man who forces women to rob dead people. He has no shame.

Charwoman – (40+ female) steals things from SCROOGE’s house

Laundress - (40+ female) steals things from SCROOGE’s house

Undertaker’s Wife – (40+ female) steals things from SCROOGE’s house creepy old woman.

Boy (Caroler) – (8 – 12, male) Young boy who sings A Christmas Carol. The title reference is because of him, he is found dead towards the end of the play during things which may happen if SCROOGE does not change.

Ignorance- (6-9, male) sickly poor and clothed in tatters. A representation of the children in London’s society. In Dickens’ opinion, the central character of the play.

Chorus

8 men, 8 women. Can be young or old. Their parts are scattered throughout, but they will serve as musicians, singers, and other parts that will be developed during the production.
